Pharrell Williams Apologises For Wearing Native American Headdress

"I am genuinely sorry..."

The appropriation of Native American culture has become a much debated topic in the United States of late.

The headdress, for instance, was being sold in fashionable shops across the land – in spite of its spiritual, meaningful qualities.

Since then, The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne has apologised following the furore which followed an Instagram snap of the singer wearing a headdress.

Now Pharrell Williams seems to have blundered into the debate. The singer appears on the front cover of this month's Elle, wearing (you guessed it) a Native American headdress.

The result? An immediate online furore, with fans utilising the hashtag #NotHappy to express their disappointment.

Issuing a short statement to BuzzFeed, Pharrell Williams wrote: "I respect and honor every kind of race, background and culture. I am genuinely sorry."
