Patternity x Clarks Originals

The pattern explorers take on a classic.

The Desert Boot by Clarks Originals is both an icon and a staple, created in 1947 by the great grandson of the label’s namesake, Nathan Clark. What it isn’t so much, is an object of pattern lovers’ desire. Until now.

Taking the simple design and swapping its plain exterior for something a little more, them, Anna Murray and Grace Winteringham have produced a slick duo of shoes – one pair black, the other white – that maintain much of the characteristics for which they are renowned.

While staying true to the shape and style, the founders of Patternity – a specialist organisation with its heart laid bare to the world of pattern in everyday life, or ‘cult pattern pioneers’ as they describe themselves – have added texture and print in a bid to modernise the shoe.

Inspired by the sort of concrete architecture that one passes by every day, the pattern they came to both enhances the piece’s potential and creates a new dimension.
