Outkast Album Update

Big Boi solo album also due

Southern rap talent Big Boi has confirmed to fans in a new interview that Outkast are preparing to release their long awaited new album soon.

Outkast formed over a decade ago, uniting two very different individuals. Big Boi is steeped in hip hop, yet his comrade Andre 3000 is an extravert who longs to increase experimentation in American music.

The tension between the two is what provides Outkast with such creativity. The group have moved from the rap underground to become one of the most celebrated American acts of their generation, scooping a Grammy for ‘Speakeboxxx / The Love Below’.

A double album, ‘Speakerboxxx / The Love Below’ was released back in 2003. Since then Outkast have completed the soundtrack to the prohibition era flick ‘Idlewild’ but seem to be loath to return to the studio.

In a new interview Big Boi revealed that fans can expect new Outkast material soon, alongside a solo album from himself.

Speaking to Allhiphop magazine the rapper revealed that his forthcoming solo album will be called ‘Sir Lucious Leftfoot: Son of Chico Dusty’ and it will be preceded by the single ‘Looking For You’.

The track is said to feature fellow Outkast member Andre 3000 and has been produced by Erick Sermon. Big Boi confirmed that the new material is ready to be released “in a few months”.

Asked about the potential for an Outkast album soon, the rapper claimed that new material can be expected not too far in the future. “For all you Outkast lovers, the album is coming. I’m tired of talking about it, and know y’all are tired of hearing me talk about it. But it’s coming, and the album is fire!”

Big Boi claimed that production team Organized Noise had “done the first couple of beats off there”, and also said that he had been helping Dr. Dre out with his forthcoming album, ‘Detox’.

“We got Dre working on his solo so we’re going to help him tighten that up,” he said.
