McCartney Adds Third New York Date

Singer to open new Citi Field stadium

Legendary songwriter Sir Paul McCartney has arranged a third date at New York’s Citi Field stadium, after his first two gigs sold out in mere minutes.

Sir Paul McCartney has one of the most impressive back catalogues in modern music. As one of the principle songwriters in The Beatles the Liverpool musician helped revolutionise rock music, as the band’s ceaseless innovation raised the bar for what can be achieved by a pop group.

Once the band split in 1970 McCartney went on to form Wings, who enjoyed massive success. Going solo, Sir Paul McCartney has crafted numerous classics and recently took on board electronic influences with his new project The Fireman.

One of the most iconic shows played by The Beatles was at New York’s Shea Stadium. The first band to play the arena, McCartney was also one of the last to perform there joining Billy Joel for his ‘Last Play At Shea’ last summer.

Earlier this year McCartney announced plans to play the new stadium, built on the same spot where Shea once stood. The songwriter will become the first act to play the new arena, and has already confirmed two nights at the Citi Field.

Tickets for these went on sale recently, selling out within minutes. As a result McCartney has added an extra date, taking his New York stint to three nights.

The songwriter has been busy of late, playing an incredible set at the Coachella festival. Drawing on the full reserves of his back catalogue, McCartney almost broke down in tears after dedicating a song to his late wife Linda.

Continually searching for new challenges, Sir Paul McCartney has recently been linked with a possible collaboration with Bob Dylan. The twin talents would be a genuine meeting of minds, but as yet no definite confirmation of this has been given.

Elsewhere, McCartney has been talking of his love for electronic music, and surprisingly revealed MGMT as possible collaborators.

Sir Paul McCartney is due to play Citi Field on July 17th, 18th and 21st.
