Matador 21st Birthday Party

With an incredible cast

Revered American label Matador are set to celebrate their 21st birthday with a lavish all star party.

Founded in 1984, Matador has went on to become one of the pre-eminent independent labels in the United States. The label has stuck to its guns, foregoing trends in order to sign acts they love and respect.

Currently the label’s roster reads like a who’s who’s of American alt rock. Reformed Californian slacker types Pavement released their material on Matador, with the label last year capturing Sonic Youth once their Geffen contract finally ran out.

Due to celebrate their 21st birthday, the label has unveiled a lavish party. Matador is due to take control of the Pearl at the Palms in Las Vegas for three days of sensational music.

Amongst the picks of the updated line up is a very special performance from Guided By Voices. Over a twenty year career the band became cult heroes before calling a halt with a spectacular show at New Year’s in 2004 / 2005.

Since then frontman Robert Pollard has released an average of two albums every year, but the singer is set to reform the classic Guided By Voices line up for one night only. By ‘classic’ the songwriter is referring to the band’s 1994 – 1996 formation, although there has been no word on who this will entail.

Elsewhere, the cream of the label’s roster past and present are due to unite with Pavement, Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Guitar Wolf, Cat Power, Spoon, Fucked Up, Cold Cave and more.

Phew! What a line up. More details have yet to be announced, but seriously with a bill like that what can possibly go wrong. INDIE HEAVEN.

More acts are set to be announced on July 5th, so keep checking back.

Matador Records 21st birthday party takes place between October 1st – 3rd.
