Lou Dalton – LC:M Preview

Menswear is all she knows.

With London Collections: Men just around the corner, we asked ten designers six burning questions (in our minds at least), and asked for a cheeky snap from their studio too. To our surprise-and great pleasure-they agreed.

Lou Dalton kicks off the whole affair at 10am on Sunday morning. Known for her smart modern take on menswear, last season she successfully married patent trousers and tweed suits in a single collection.

Why do you do what you do?
Menswear is all I know and have known since I was 16. I do it because I enjoy it and I hope to think we have a little of something to say that the bloke out there can relate to and buy into.

What’s your main inspiration for Spring Summer 14?
Aviation, isolation, constantly on the move. Light and form.

Which piece from SS13/AW13 have you found yourself wearing the most?
Oversized green and white shirt, mainly because it's the only thing that fits, and as most people who know me know that I do have a liking for a man's shirt.

What track is the most overplayed in your studio right now?
‘Get Lucky’ by Daft Punk has to be up there, it makes everyone smile in the studio, as is anything and everything by John Grant, I'm a little bit obsessed with him if I'm honest..

Which other designers work are you most interested to see at LC:M and why?
I'm looking forward to seeing what we all come out with but I'm always keen to see and support what Chris Shannon, James Long, Sibling and Martine Rose are up to, mainly because we all do something super different and they are all super talented and a force to be reckoned with. Also super excited to see what Craig Green comes out with, that boy is one hell of talent, ain't seen nothing like it in a long time, something very special there. And also rooting for new boy Alan Taylor, he modelled for me once, years back, another wee talented boy with something exciting to say…

Who would you most like to see wearing your clothes?
Anyone and everyone, I don't want to isolate anybody from giving it a go though I do appreciate what I do ain't everybody's cup of tea…

Lou presents on Sunday 16th June at 10:00.
