DJ Yoda – Chop Suey

Featuring Action Bronson, Roots Manuva, Sway

Duncan Beiny’s latest boasts an impressive list of collaborators: Action Bronson, Roots Manuva and Sway amongst them. It’s that diversity that’s the album’s  strength and weakness. ‘Charlie  Sheen’, with Greg Nice, is brilliant. ‘Sega RIP’, on the other hand, is another reminder that Scroobius Pip should never be allowed in a recording studio ever, ever again. It’s a decent set, but there’s no shaking the sense that we’ve been here before. If you’ve a hankering for turn of the century hip-hop and dance, you’ll love the cutup title track, chopped amen breaks and rave stabs. Others may find it a bit too much of a nostalgia trip.
