Deftones Add One Off London Show

In support of their new album

Nu-metal giants Deftones have added a one off London show to their forthcoming UK tour.

In the mid 90s metal lapsed as a forgotten genre, with even pioneers such as Metallica seeming to lose their way amidst a sea of spandex and stylists. However a new breed of bands merged metal with a variety of influences, re-vitalising the scene.

Deftones emerged from California with an intense mixture of metal, gothic soundscapes and smatterings of electronica. Lead singer Chino Moreno’s intense outpourings won the band a cult following, which exploded with 2000’s ‘White Pony’.

Recently, however, the band have been dealt a hammer blow. Much loved bass player Chi Cheng was involved in a car accident, suffering extensive injuries which left him in a coma.

Still recovering, Deftones postponed the release of their new album. Later returning to the studio to re-record some parts, ‘Diamond Eyes’ is set to be released later this summer.

The band’s first new album in four years, it comes as nu-metal enjoys something of a Renaissance. Limp Bizkit are touring again, while other trend setters have reformed or released new material.

Due for release on May 3rd, ‘Diamond Eyes’ is the band’s sixth studio album in total. To celebrate, Deftones have organised a special one off London show.

Taking place in London’s ULU on May 12th, the show is one of the Deftones smallest in the country for some time. Also due to headline this summer’s Download festival the band have decided to find a replacement, albeit temporary, for Chi Cheng.

Deftones have confirmed the following show:
