Founded in 2002 by a handful of university friends, Deal Real aimed to provide a hub for the capital’s hip hop scene.
In its brief but memorable lifespan, it did all this and more. Alongside the latest releases and memorabilia, the shop’s legendary Friday night open mic slot allowed countless young MCs the chance to express themselves.
Establishing a reputation for stunning in-stores, Deal Real was able to grab early performances from the likes of John Legend and (pictured) Kanye West.
Set to return on Record Store Day (April 18th) a rejuvenated Deal Real is set to occupy 14 Newburgh Street, Carnaby. A photo gallery will depict some of the shop’s most memorable moments, while in-store signings, performances and workshops are promises.
