R.E.M. For SXSW

R.E.M. have been officially confirmed for SXSW this year, marking a huge coup for the renowned music showcase. R.E.M. are hard at work on their 14th studio album – to be entitled “Accelerate” – and will no doubt showcase new material at the gig.

SXSW has grown to become one of the most important musical showcases on the planet, and last hosted R.E.M. in 2003. The band are, of course, quintessentially southern. Hailing from Athens, Georgia the Southern states of the US dominate their work – making this a unique opportunity to see the band in a small venue in what is essentially their home environment.

Their latest album – “Accelerate” – has been produced by Jacknife Lee and is said to have a faster pace than previous efforts. A larger tour will follow later in the year to promote it.

Clashmusic.com’s favourite R.E.M. album: Murmur. Though, it must be said, we have a soft spot for Life’s Rich Pageant since no one else seems to mention it.
