Bok Bok is gearing up for the release of his debut EP ‘Southside’ on June 13th.
In the space of around 18 months, London label Night Slugs has turned the capital’s dance scene on its head. One of the foremost advocates of UK Funky, the label’s cuts have added a new urgency to dancefloors.
Upping the tempo, Night Slugs match in-your-face beats with unmistakable visuals. Part of the crew behind the label, Bok Bok is perhaps better known as a DJ than a producer despite some vital tracks.
The producer previously hooked up with Glasgow label Dress 2 Sweat, and it is his visuals which give Night Slugs release such a direct impact.
Now Bok Bok has completed work on his debut EP. ‘Southside’ will be released through Night Slugs on June 13th, with Glasgow based distribution service Rubadub helping the tracks get out there.
A definitive statement from the producer, this is Bok Bok’s largest release to date. Mixing acid house energy with gut busting bass, the London beatsmith uses vintage drum machines and analog textures.
Opening with the ringing of bells, Bok Bok then goes straight into ‘Charisma Theme’. Heavy on the 808s, the rave energy leads onto the warped vocals of ‘Hyperpass’ and its message of ‘Trax gotta get made’.
‘Reminder’ is a deep and direct cut, featuring some ominous bass. Already being hammered on Benji B’s show new track ‘Silo Pass’ harks back to the explosive first blast of grime, a crunked up piece of electronics that could only be made in 2011.
Finishing with ‘Look’ Bok Bok utilises the skeleton of his vital ‘IRL’ remix. Sound clips are set to emerge shortly, with the full ‘Southside’ EP set to drop digitally and physically on June 13th.
