Barbican Latin Season

Hispanic heavyweights gather

London’s renowned Barbican venue has unveiled a new Latin season that sees some of the finest musicians from Spain and beyond showcase the best in Hispanic music.

The music of Spain has long entranced the world with its rhythms, sensual melodies and smoky atmosphere. Dark and dramatic, it suggest a world of bull fighting, red wine and dancing that exists a long way from the dull high rise blocks that dominate UK cities.

The forthcoming events open with Orquesta Típica Fernández Fierro. A Buenos Aires based group, they attempt to revive the spirit of traditional tango music in the 21st century.

After this the venue presents a special night to the musical form ‘Rumba Catalana’. Presenting the debut UK performance by Peret, one of the genres godfathers, it showcases a fine gypsy performer who still retains a powerful musical punch.

The events finish with ‘Spanish Bombs: A Tropical Tribute To The Clash’. The Clash were an inspiration throughout the Spanish speaking world due to their internationalist stance, and the night will feature a host of guest stars.

Confirmed to appear are Rubén Albarrán of Mexico’s supreme Latin rockers Café Tacuba, Jonaz of Mexico’s electronic funsters Plastilina Mosh and many more.

The Barbican’s latin events begin on April 14th.
