New Aaliyah and The Weeknd collaboration 'Poison' has dropped.
Out now, the single forms part of a posthumous studio album, drawn from tapes completed by Aaliyah before her untimely death.
'Poison' is out now, and while Aaliyah's vocal prowess is undoubted, this still feels a little like a missed opportunity.
While the background production is deluxe her vocal hasn't been treated, giving it a demo-like feel that doesn't match her complete studio projects.
Abel Tesfaye's contributions are faithful, the work of someone who regularly cites Aaliyah as a key influence – he previously sampled her on 'Trilogy' song 'What You Need'.
The two parts don't quite connect, however, with 'Poison' never truly coming into focus.
Tune in now.
