Yo La Tengo - Fade

Might just be one of their best yet
Yo La Tengo - Fade

YLT might be approaching their third decade, but there’s not a whiff of complacency to their first album in four years. A whistle-stop tour of YLT’s hooky indie, shoegazing ballads and, in epic finale ‘Before We Run’, belching brass, this is more than just a re-treading of water but the musings of an outfit achingly self-aware of their twilight years. From the mantra of “nothing ever stays the same” in opener ‘Ohm’, to the ode on absence ‘I’ll Be Around’, ‘Fade’ finds YLT at their most wistfully contemplative; a thought only softened by the paradox that this might just be one of their best yet.
