Quite possibly the weirdest White Stripes song yet.
Conquest is a cover version of a song made popular in the 1950’s by singer Patti Page (best known for her novelty hit How Much Is That Doggie In The Window?) but I can’t imagine her version sounded anything like this.
Opening with a brassy Mexican horn and Jack White wailing the title it’s the kind of music that could soundtrack a Sergio Leone close-up or a dramatic kung fu fight. Complete with bizarre guitar squeals, Meg’s spare beats and horns by Mexico’s Regulo Aldama, Conquest is Mariachi Led Zeppelin.
