Boy/girl band Veronica Falls are ostensibly a sweet and simple pop outfit, but listen closely for hidden barbs in their often surprising lyrics. Not quite the children of the C86 revolution they’ve been labelled as, they’re nevertheless trading on fey harmonies and cardie wearing melodies in the Belle And Sebastian mould. Production is crisp however, which pulls them back from the teetering edge of winsome, but ‘Teenage’ for instance sounds just that, like a group of school friends playing in a band. Neither offensive nor inventive this album is a bit like a bag of Rainbow Drops; thrillingly pretty but ultimately full of air.
