Displays Bundick’s production chops

Emerging unscathed from the stratospheric rise and crashing decline of 2010’s Chillwave movement, Toro Y Moi, AKA Chaz Bundick, is now onto his third album. Considering the genre that brought him to prominence championed lo-fi immediacy, ‘Anything To Return’ is an album which really displays Bundick’s production chops. The album wears a multitude of influences on its sleeve, containing elements of hip-hop, house, disco and funk, but ultimately there is a distinct lack of variation amongst the thirteen tracks. Lead single ‘So Many Details’ exemplifies the problem, it’s a polished tune but is crying out for some outside input other than the ineffectual samples.
