The Kills - Last Day Of Magic
A thrilling tale of passionately doomed love
Beauty may only be skin deep, but for some people it is everything.
The Kills have gouged out a career through razor sharp riffs and shrieked lyrics that seem to hint at something rather distasteful indeed. Surprisingly for such a combustible duo, this single is taken from The Kills’ third album “Midnight Boom”. Having previously restricted themselves to guitar and drums, this single sees Hotel and VV duel it out over an expanded sonic template that – gasp - veers into the bass register.
Friends of hip designer Hedi Slimane (and, of course, Mr Kate Moss if the rumours are to be believed) the two look the part, but it is difficult to take such long term malice seriously - after three albums tearing at one another’s throats, you start to wish they’d either use those knives or put them away permanently. A thrilling tale of passionately doomed love, you can’t help but feel that Will Shakespeare got here first – and used more than two instruments.
