The conclusion to be drawn from the mysterious Blue Eyed Shark’s sonic experiment is that bouncing from genre to genre, whilst ignoring the quality control dial, results in a frustrating mess.
While ‘Look Back’ is a smart Brendan Benson-like boy ballad, and ‘Jetplane’ a startling – and out of place – hunk of spacey-rave, the cod reggae of ‘What To Do’ is utterly toe-curling.
Elsewhere, the cheap pop of ‘Tapdance’ and ‘Rain’ both drip with aural fromage. Like a kid in a sweet-shop, Blue Eyed Shark seemingly cannot decide what to excel at first. Confused? You will be.
