Always ones to be lauded and referenced by more chart-friendly bands, it’s interesting to see the normally pared-down blues of Ohio duo The Black Keys finally given a little sheen by a man who knows a thing or two about being top of the pops.
Danger Mouse, one half of Gnarls Barkley, has added his production skills to their fifth album Attack And Release and this latest single is a prime example of his influence. Amid the growling riffs and tortured vocals there’s a repeated submarine-type ping and expansive beat work that enhances their usually earnest if austere rock.
