Nineteen years after the multi-platinum ‘Live At The BBC’ original comes its follow-up: two more discs of rock ‘n’ roll covers, live favourites and interview banter from the Fab Four, recorded across sessions for BBC radio through 1963 and 1964.
Amid that onset of Beatlemania – still fresh from Hamburg and before the impossibility of touring – the band is impenetrable; their beloved Chuck Berry and Little Richard tributes predate the ‘With The Beatles’ sessions, but sound immaculate.
With 37 previously unreleased performances, ‘On Air Volume 2’ is essential for any Beatles collector. For everyone else, it’s an informal insight into the world’s greatest group on the verge of an exhilarating ascent.
