T2 Trainspotting: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

A heady juxtaposition of old and new to honour the comeback of the cult film...

Updating the storyline for a film as seminal as Trainspotting in time for its 20-year anniversary was always going to be something of a tall order for Danny Boyle and co, and the curation of its soundtrack (which had previously gained a legendary status back in 1996), would be no exception.

In true Trainspotting fashion, the accompanying soundtrack to the T2 sequel nestles between some of the breakthrough singles of yesteryear and a painstaking selection of talents from the present day. An effortless blending and renewed celebration of genres like punk, new wave, techno and hip-hop is all made possible with the inclusion of long time Trainspotting favourites Iggy Pop, Blondie and Underworld and extra additions in Queen, The Clash, Run DMC and Frankie Goes To Hollywood.

Modern reincarnations of the said musical genres can be found through the presence of no frills rock outfits Wolf Alice and Fat White Family, rap exponents Young Fathers and a singularly unique rock offering from drum & bass stalwart High Contrast.

With T2’s auditory pièces de résistance being packaged as a pair of rousing reworks of Trainspotting synonymous tracks ‘Lust for Life’ and ‘Born Slippy’, the transition from 1996 to 2016 is made complete.
