Some things can’t be taught

As cliché’s go, it’s an apt one - Seasick Steve’s certainly an old dog and there are precious few new tricks on show here. Despite the gloriously odd decision to place Treasures - a piece of music as fragile as the materialistic lifestyles it attacks - first in the tracklisting, there are no real surprises. However, Seasick is a craft-master, pouring his heart into the folk-blues of ‘Whiskey Ballad’ and tearing up bar rooms with John Paul Jones on the title track. There’ll always be new tricks, but some things can’t be taught.
