Reveals Adams’ bruised soul
Ryan Adams - Ashes & Fire
Opener ‘Dirty Rain’ sets the scene is set for former alt.country poster boy Ryan Adams’ latest. A delicate acoustic intro ushers in the man himself as he reflects: “I’m just looking through the rubble, trying to find out who we were”. Such existentialism resounds throughout this touching album, which finds a displaced Adams considering life and his place in it. Song titles ‘Come Home’, ‘Do I Wait’ and ‘Save Me’ are transparent in sentiment, his voice perfectly heartbreaking. ‘I Love You But I Don’t Know What To Say’ perfectly concludes a haunting album that truly reveals Adams’ bruised soul.
