Ryan Adams & The Cardinals – Cardinology

An expectedly great listen.

New York’s Ryan Adams returns exactly a year and five days after releasing ‘Follow The Lights’ with an eleventh instalment.

Though his fancy for a drink has earned him a spot on the list of rock’s notorious scamps, ironically he’s fast becoming a somewhat canon for heartfelt American rock. With no new tricks expected from a fellow who’s gradually consolidated with the severely gifted The Cardinals, ‘Cardinology’ rocks through a lyrically lush folk-scape, from the hankering ‘Fix It’ and the lustrous ‘Evergreen’. ‘Magik’ resurrects the sneer of ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll’ though devoid of those subtle assortments that were core to the marvellous ‘Heartbreaker’. Overall, ‘Cardinology’ is an expectedly great listen.
