RKC - British Plastic

A keeper
RKC - British Plastic
Conceived in 2007, the now-abbreviated Roses Kings Castles is the solo project of ex-Babyshambler Adam Ficek. This, a third album after last year’s gangly ‘Suburban Time Bomb’, finds Ficek harking back to his indie rock roots. Consequently, ‘British Plastic’ is his boldest collection of songs. Drafting in Patrick Walden on lead guitar, the muscular ‘Kittens Becomes Cats’ and the power pop of ‘These Are The Days’ suggest an impressive upward shift in songwriting. If proceedings are slightly hindered by Ficek’s limited vocal, a gem like ‘Here Comes The Summer’, with its squally beeps and ragged guitars, marks out RKC - finally - as a keeper.
