"...assuaging and beautiful in places"
Plum - Different Skin

Scotland’s Shona Maguire, AKA Plum, holds the honour of being the first female signing to avant-electronic hub Benbecula Records.

Unfortunately, her debut full-length release comes just as the label prepares to shut its doors indefinitely. But Plum needn’t be too concerned, ‘Different Skin’ simply bubbles with a meditative emotion, assuaging and beautiful in places, unsettling and uterine in others. The gently strummed ‘Goosebumps’ creeps stealthily into the airy synths of ‘Lullaby’, while the eponymous track is nothing but Plum’s gentle, aching vocal layered and laid bare.

There are times when her otherworldly instrumentals are too stripped-back, resulting in sounds that feel almost clinical, but while Plum won’t ever raise the pulse, she does soften the skin.
