After early forays into electronica, Piney Gir – or Angela Penhaligon to her mates – briefly dabbled in art-rock before indulging her Kansas roots on the Country Roadshow project. Album number five, however, sees her opting for sweet pop tunes and while ‘Friends And Neighbours’ is a masterful slice of introspection, ‘Let’s Get Silly’ is – indeed – annoying in extremis. There is some fine songcraft on display (check out closing ghost-ballad ‘Say Goodbye’) but, eventually, ‘Geronimo!’ becomes the equivalent of being licked by the Andrex puppy; it’s nice to start off with but swiftly becoming a tad wet and ultimately a touch cloying.
