Peter Broderick -

Easier to respect than adore
Peter Broderick -
Peter Broderick’s second solo album sees him loosen any previously self-imposed restrictions. But, while the opening ‘I Am Piano’ sounds beautiful - strings and woodwind embellish a piano refrain - the track meanders rather than soars and this lack of coherence becomes frustrating. ‘Blue’ is a ballad written by Broderick’s father and is the most fleshed-out song on a complex album whose artistry is easier to respect than adore. The URL title provides Internet access to the project’s artwork and liner notes: Broderick’s only bugbear with downloading is the lack of accompanying visual art. Unfortunately, the resultant package is very cleverly constructed and yet maddeningly dull.
