Owl John – Owl John

A more than worthy gesture from a distinctive, engrossing voice...

Exhausted after Frightened Rabbit’s lengthy 2013 tour, vocalist Scott Hutchison despised the music industry.

Thankfully for all, he opted to release this negativity by channelling it into new recordings, released here under the name of Owl John. Perhaps Hutchison’s most raw, honest document since ‘The Midnight Organ Fight’, ‘Owl John’ focuses on the bare bones of his craft.

‘Hate Music’ funnels this loathing of the record, release and tour cycle, while ‘Stupid Boy’ documents his failure to adapt to the culture of a new home in Los Angeles. At times thrillingly vital, ‘Owl John’ lacks the polish and uplift of Frightened Rabbit, yet has its own character.

A more than worthy gesture from a distinctive, engrossing voice.
