Blissful
NZCA/Lines - NZCA/Lines

Inspired by forward-thinking R & B production and a fascination with Aaliyah, Michael Lovett’s lustrous pop take on honeyed bump and grind is blissful. ‘NZCA/Lines’ is a triumph of craft and form - Lovett’s vocal gliding between cut-crystal falsettos and breathless mourning to a backdrop of delicate, programmed beats - and the languorous slink of ‘Okinawa Channels’ and busy multi-vocal on ‘Compass Points’ is enough to have Metronomy, Hot Chip and Junior Boys purring in downbeat appreciation. At times brilliantly cold and clinical, it feels like an album created for a man-made future but with Lovett’s soulful croon adding the humanity, you’ll feel every heartbeat.
