Mystery Jets - Two Doors Down

A breezy romp for summer

679 Recordings

Not many bands can claim to have sacked their dad, but that’s exactly what Mystery Jets did before unveiling their new pop vision.

“Two Doors Down” is a slice of 80s influenced pop, a joyful love-inspired melody floating merrily over synths and - gasp – a saxophone solo. Reed lovers rejoice, as indie bands across the nation suddenly strive to get that ‘Baker Street’ feel. Taken from their well-received new album “21”, the single is difficult to take seriously as the band heap layer upon layer of irony onto the initially melody.

An arch video doesn’t help, gathering 80s clichés such as rolled up sleeves on pastel blazers and a Steinberger headless bass. A breezy romp for summer, but all that looking over their shoulders will leave Mystery Jets with a very sore neck.
