No better or worse an idea than his largely ungoverned ‘Stade 2’ album, Quentin Dupieux’s (aka Mr Oizo) electro-techno kinks and French funk, ranging from superfly to inebriated, are ideal for a surrealist film score, were said flick A Day In The Life Of Mr Oizo, or Attack Of The Killer Ants In The Pants.
Which is exactly what ‘Wrong Cops’ is – the soundtrack to the film of the same name, directed by Dupieux and starring an ensemble of American comedy performers.
This release serves another role as an Ed Banger best of, on which the Parisian puppeteer can be stupendously juvenile (or European, using bodily functions as jack moves), a bearer of killer riffs fidgeting through a revolving door (including a mega Queen chop-up on ‘Positif’), have Marilyn Manson over on ‘Solid’, and show some degree of synthetic emotion.
Frenetic fun, in small doses.
