Weird and Wonderful
Moon Wiring Club - Somewhere A Fox Is Getting Married

“Fresh. So fresh,” intones a voice at the start of the new Moon Wiring Club album. No idle boast. Where producer Ian Hodgson’s previous albums have tended to sprawl (charmingly), this is a more streamlined work that brings keen focus to his mouldering hip-hop meets radiophonics and Miss Marple aesthetic. The vocal samples from old British telly (a MWC staple) are omnipresent as ever and there are echoes of Burial’s ghost hardware at work on the ace ‘Frosty Reception’. But it’s Hodgson’s assured beats and alternately sinister/jolly ambience that captivate. Plus it’s funny! A patchwork sampladelic parody of the royal wedding. Weird and wonderful.
