The first single from The Kills’ upcoming third album opens with telephone beeps before the duo trade breathy vocals like they are having a phone sex conversation.
It’s all quite low key and backed by a smouldering heavy bass line before the menacing chorus comes in like a jilted lover walking in to overhear their partner’s telephonic smut. Not that there’s actually anything explicitly mentioned in the lyrics. It’s all abstractions like “laughing like a seagull” and “you ain’t born typical”, but the music, with its cool swagger and rumbling effects, is about as seductive as minimal rock gets.
