Few people deserve the title of legend but surely no one would disagree that Jeff Mills is just that, from his instrumental role in forming the seminal Underground Resistance techno label to his own varied back catalogue including such techno classics as ‘The Bells’ and ‘Sonic Destroyer’.
Both tracks are included here amidst a virtual greatest hits with the slight sonic addition of a 70-piece symphony orchestra and arrangements by the young composer Thomas Roussel. Roussel’s contribution isn’t to be underestimated; he has worked closely with Mills to create a wonderful synergy of styles, which is an organic growth from the original machine music. In the world of music the news of an artist working with an orchestra is usually a sign of indulgence and lack of creativity, here Mills turns that notion on its head and breathes new life into his impressive back catalogue.
