Jah Wobble And Julie Campbell – Psychic Life

Worth your consideration

Accompanied by an erudite and entertaining press release written by Wobble himself, this is a surprising collaboration. His excitement is palpable, from hooking up with Manchester’s Lonelady (an electro Tilda Swinton) to reuniting with former compadre and iconic PiL guitarist Keith Levine. It’s packed with ideas of psychogeography and romanticism, railing against the information age and its associated uniformity. Moving from taut post punk to icy electronica via some good, if slightly misplaced jazzy soul, the meat here is the familiar throb of Wobble’s dubby bass in the company of Levine’s stark angular guitar, which remains thrilling. Not an unqualified success but worth your consideration.
