In Photos: Sigur Rós Live At Wembley Arena, London

Icelandic act headlines in the capital...

November 21st saw Icelandic post-rock powerhouse Sigur Rós call at London's expansive Wembley Arena – surely the kind of gig that seemed beyond the band's wildest dreams when they began in the 1990s. After all, theirs is a sound popularised by (often televisual) context, but hardly what anyone would call mainstream-baiting.

The band, fronted by the otherworldly tones of Jónsi Birgisson, were playing in support of their latest, seventh studio album, the more aggressive than usual 'Kveikur' – Clash review here. Naturally, back-catalogue cuts were also aired, including the band's breakthrough 'hit' of 1999, 'Svefn-g-englar'. The FatCat-released track still sounds stunning today – why not get nostalgic by checking out the video below.

As for the Wembley show, Clash's Natalie Seery was on hand to snap the action – by, from the looks of it, quite low down. Well, Wembely is huge. Photo gallery, just up there.
