White. Female. Australian. There’s an awful lot about Iggy Azalea that marks her out as not your usual hip-hop star.
Perhaps it’s because of this outsider status that ‘The New Classic’ is so outwardly confrontational; Azalea spits furiously about how she’s earned her success and how she’s as deserving as they come.
Her Miami-via-Mullumbimby, Australia drawl can take some getting used to, but she uses her acid tongue to flay anyone who dares to cross her.
The production is an expertly judged combination of radio-friendly pop and club-influenced, sparse trap beats.
Iggy’s the real deal. She always knew it; now you do too.
