Hard-Fi - Can't Get Along (Without You)

There’s a fine line between good and awful in pop music.

On their debut album Hard Fi seemed adept at staying on the right side and their affection for Level 42 didn’t overly hamper some nifty tunes. But the encouragement of their success seems to have affected this skill and on Can’t Get Along (Without You) they end up knee-deep in a quagmire of Mark King gunk. There’s slick orchestration, bland melodies and even sleigh bells. Were it not for a totally ill conceived lyric about being addicted to smack, you might assume this was a Christmas charity record.
