Everything changes, but nothing changes. Since their last album, Frightened Rabbit have switched to a major label, yet within seconds of listening to ‘Pedestrian Verse’ it becomes clear that this is the same group we fell in love with all those years ago. The folk influences are more prominent, while Scott Hutchison is veering away explicitly autobiographical lyrics. ‘State Hospital’ remains blissfully beautiful, while ‘December’s Traditions’ contains all the cold of the season. The production may be a little smoother but ‘Pedestrian Verse’ just seems to prove how lasting, how devastating Frightened Rabbit can be.
