Another nugget of joy
Fanfarlo - Rooms Filled With Light

Having charmed fans with their 2009 debut ‘Reservoir’, Fanfarlo further expand their sonic toolbox. This Ben Allen-produced affair is a bold, confident record, with the band’s trademark brass and strings finessed with synths and neat sampling. Indeed, ‘Rooms Filled With Light’ manages to be upbeat yet dark; a fine set of pop tuneage wrapped in Simon Balthazar’s idiosyncratic lyrical imagery. The saxophone-led ‘Tunguska’ is lavish noir-pop which documents a comet exploding over Siberia in 1908, while the anti-materialistic ‘Shiny Things’ is an infectious electro-chugger. Always interesting, and with a deft use of traditional instrumentation alongside studio trickery, Fanfarlo have created another nugget of joy.
