Captivatingly Beautiful

Eleven years ago, a modest record store flyer read: “Wanted: Sad triumphant rock band.” Eloquent in its simplicity yet modestly bold in its ambition, it’s arguably been Explosions In The Sky’s doctrine from the moment the advert was answered. After the obligatory inter-album sabbatical, ‘Take Care, Take Care, Take Care’ is stamped with the indulgent EITS hallmark: it doesn’t demand your attention, just quietly commands it until the point of implosion. Undeniably formulaic but just as captivatingly beautiful, solemn closer ‘Let Me Back In’ is the track-stopping highlight, painstakingly building to a crescendo before the ghost voices drift out. Glorious.
