Dinosaur Jr. – I Bet On The Sky

Commercial yet complex

Tenth album from a band spanning four decades and now seven years into performing again as the original trio. J Mascis has always been the leader of the gang and has also been busying himself in heavier circles, creating a solid reputation as a metal axeman. Back on familiar ground, his contribution is ubiquitous and there’s certainly a harder edge to the sound, yet the songwriting is the key, with a set of tunes commercial enough to sucker you in, yet complex enough to maintain interest. There’s evident enthusiasm throughout and, whilst sounding refreshingly modern, older fans will suddenly remember how much they’ve missed them.
