Delilah – From The Roots Up

A confident and soulful debut

Wearing her influences on her sleeve, Delilah (AKA Paloma Ayana) has produced a confident and soulful debut. With a versatile vocal style that can switch between boisterous pop numbers and the angsty tones normally found in trip-hop, Delilah has a large sonic palette to explore. With production leaning on the minimal the shadow of artists as versatile as Portishead and NIN are apparent within these twelve tracks. ‘Go’, a blistering reworking of Chaka Khan’s ‘Ain’t Nobody’, is easily contender for pop song of the year, while piano-led ‘Insecure’ takes all the best parts of contemporary genres to create an impressive whole. Worth investigating.
