Unfathomably exciting stuff
Dan Deacon - America

The eccentric Baltimore producer continues to create hyperactive, space-age electronica with his third album to get a full UK release. ‘America’ is another choppy, distorted, and at times incomprehensible album which could only be his. Apparently the album demonstrates anger, confusion, and apocalyptic anxiety over corporatism and war, but any lyrics are unintelligibly hidden behind Deacon’s turned-up-to-eleven frazzled electronic layers. We wouldn’t have it any other way though; his brash, glitchy, inimitable sound is once again a winner. The angsty, punk-electro single ‘Lots’, the warped synth and hundred-mile-an-hour pace of ‘Crash Jam’, the brass samples on ‘Manifest’: it’s unfathomably exciting stuff.
