Classic ambient re-issue
Everybody knows 1977 was the year punk broke.
But perhaps less often recounted is the proliferation of electronic music in the seventies, with artists such as Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder finally bringing technology to the forefront of pop. The missing link being of course producer/musician/supreme-overlord-spacebeing Brian Eno, who engineered the post-punk movement as well as inventing ambient electronic music with such famed beatless soundscapes as 'Music For Airports' and 'Discreet Music'. This full-length collaboration with German spirit-brothers Cluster fall purely into the latter category and are testament to the devastating shockwaves the ambient concept would bring about for years to come.
Without Eno and Cluster we would have no Boards of Canada, no Kompakt, no Kranky, no KLF 'Chill Out'… As such, it could be argued that these obscure yet highly regarded works have had as much effect on today’s music as 'Never Mind The Bollocks'.
