Ramp it up a notch or three

Less than a year after the release of their self-titled debut album, the Cleveland collective - fronted by the prodigious Dylan Baldi - ramp their sound up a notch or three on this Steve Albini-produced follow-up. The nine-minute sprawl of the epic ‘Wasted Days’ surges with crackling confidence, while Baldi’s sense of pop melody is still evident on the bubblegum thrash of ‘Fall In’. However, the puppy punk of yore is gone; ‘Separation’ is lacerating squall of nastiness, while the closing ‘Cut You’ oozes with rugged slacker charm. ‘Attack On Memory’ is mightily impressive; however, next time out Baldi will need to explore new sonic territories.
