Far from dumbed down
Chiddy Bang - Breakfast

Some omnipotent being somewhere must have decided to kick the respectable fun out of hip-hop, circa early 2000s. Don’t get me wrong, there was still a fair share of comedic beat riders, but it’s not like you could share your amiable feelings towards them without being shunned eternally. Chiddy Bang aren’t a revolution, but it’s nice to have a rap long-player that emits a Sunny D-like luminosity whilst still retaining the expected braggadocio. Tracks like ‘Whatever We Want’, for instance, rejoice the candid hedonisms of owning pleasurable things. Far from dumbed down and more importantly, rap with a much-needed happy-go-lucky makeover.
