For the recording of this fifth studio album, German techno-pop duo Booka Shade decamped to Manchester’s Eve Studios (hence the somewhat unimaginative album title) in order to reinvigorate themselves creatively.
Despite the change of location, the album’s sound remains largely similar to previous endeavours: anthemic techno-informed pop and electronica; a potent concoction of forthright drum patterns, melodic hooks and occasional guest vocals.
Yet, whilst previous albums were energetic and exuberant in scope, ‘Eve’ largely lacks the duo’s trademark vigour and moments of originality. Tracks such as ‘Crossing Borders’ and ‘Love Inc’ (video below) offer brief glimpses of Booka Shade’s previous glories, but this is far from their best work.
